“Perhaps he’s worried about you.” Jack slid away the sword. “Red-

mayne would have told him you were poisoned.”

“Worried?” Sebastian laughed cynically, humorlessly. “The old

sod couldn’t care less for me. He cares about only thing. The inheri-

tance. I don’t think it would bother him if Elric succeeded him instead,

so long as Elric had two or three sons to keep the succession inside this

family, this bloodline.” He looked up at Jack and Janos with dark eyes.

“You’ll see, Jack, soon enough. You’re welcome to come to the eating-

match, Janos. If nothing else, the food is the best in the Riverland.”
